Immersion – The Frac Bretagne collection from the floor to the ceiling

Led by the Brittany Region, the renovation of the Frac Bretagne’s paintings reserve will, from spring 2027, provide the necessary conditions for the conservation and security of this collection.

This major project requires a large-scale and delicate operation to transfer the works to other spaces. From 6 November, the Grand Galerie will therefore be showcasing a significant part of this collection, acquired since the 1980s – nearly 300 works covering the walls.

This immersive display, with works hung edge-to-edge and without any set logic, reveals numerous unexpected links between the artworks. It fosters dialogues between forms and colours that transcend historical, geographical and thematic categories. It allows visitors to set aside the usual hierarchies of fame and value, as this time the presentation has been determined by the formats of the works and the space available on the walls.

Faced with this panorama, you can settle down and let your gaze wander freely, find spaces for discussion, watch a film, or use an interactive terminal to identify the works.

The display is divided into two seasons:

The first, from 6 November to 31 January, highlights the institution’s wide range of partnerships, its regional focus, and the nomadic nature that forms one of the cornerstones of its identity.

The second, from 2 February to 23 May, celebrates amateur artistic practices and the Frac’s commitment to participatory initiatives.

Immersion also demonstrates the team’s resolve to keep the collection on display, despite major renovation work, to contribute to local cultural life and to keep this community art space open.

This collection belongs to you, and we invite you to come visit and again discover its treasures through the programme of events open to all, throughout these two seasons.
